Goal 16 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development calls for the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, the provision of access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. Specifically target 16.7 addresses the need for responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making.
In this connection, we have been focusing on supporting national efforts to promote open, transparent and inclusive participation and decision-making in development. We assist countries in improving their responsiveness to public needs and engagement of people in the development process. This includes e-participation, as well as the promotion and use of open government data, so as to improve public accountability, combat corruption and enhance the delivery of public services.
