The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), in collaboration with the UN Futures Lab/Global Hub, organized a Foresight Webinar Series on Governance Futures as part of the United Nations Economist Network (UNEN) initiative on foresight. The series used strategic foresight to enhance understanding of governance systems and chart pathways toward desirable governance futures.
Interactive engagement: Colleagues from 21 organizations across the UN system were engaged to look at drivers of change, unpack their interlinkages, and discuss implications towards scenario development. These informed visions and actions towards desirable governance futures. Consolidated insights: A Policy Brief, scheduled for launch in 2025, will guide UN efforts in integrating foresight into governance reforms.
Why it matters
In the face of evolving global dynamics and multifaceted challenges, strategic foresight provided participants with tools to anticipate uncertainties, uncover opportunities, and guide long-term decision-making. The webinar series fostered a nuanced understanding of governance systems and equipped UN colleagues to envision and work toward adaptive, inclusive, and resilient governance futures.
