Background
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through its Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), and its Project Office on Governance (UNPOG/DPIDG), and the Ministry of Land and Environment of Mozambique in collaboration with the UN Resident Coordinator Office and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mozambique, is co-organizing a 3-day National Workshop on Risk-informed Governance and Decision-making for Circular Economy, Green Growth, Resilience and Climate Action in Mozambique, to be held from 4 to 6 September 2023 in Maputo, Mozambique.
The National Workshop is being organized in response to the expressed capacity development request received from the Government of Mozambique through its Ministry of Land and Environment in 2022. The workshop will be attended by senior to mid-level public officials drawn from ministries, departments, municipalities, agencies, provincial governments, CSOs, private sector and units engaged in promoting risk-informed governance, sustainable development, local adaptation and resilience strategies, climate action, DRR, circular economy, green growth etc. This will include representatives and focal points, mayors, policy planning officers and decision-making officers at the national and provincial level.
Objective
This workshop aims to build the capacity of national and local government officials to accelerate progress on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union Agenda 2063. Participants will have their capacities strengthened as they gain in-depth knowledge and understanding on key issues focused on harnessing risk-informed governance, circular economy, green growth, government innovation, climate action, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilience to design and implement strategies to help minimize the adverse impact of climate change and promote inclusive public service delivery.
