This compendium, prepared by the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), aims to capture emerging trends in digital responses of UN Member States against the COVID-19 pandemic along with other digital government initiatives and provide a preliminary analysis of their main features. These cases are shared for exchange of information so that Member States can learn from each other and possibly create new partnerships.

This regulatory sandbox is designed to lower the regulatory cost of players who develop and test innovations before obtaining the finished commercial product and in preparation for the adoption of 5G technologies in Thailand. The sandbox license has a term of 360 days and is extendable to up to 720 days. The Eastern Economic Corridor (EECO), a special economic zone of three provinces in eastern Thailand, partnered with state-owned National Telecommunications (NT), launched the country’s first 5G pilot. Under the plan, the district of Ban Chang, Rayong, became Thailand’s first progressive smart city and constructed various infrastructure for 5G. As a result, local residents are able to receive 100x faster internet than traditional 4G networks. Government and private sectors can connect and share instant information.
