Fostering the Urban food System Transformation through Innovative Living Labs Implementation (FUSILLI)

This compendium, prepared by the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), aims to capture emerging trends in digital responses of UN Member States against the COVID-19 pandemic along with other digital government initiatives and provide a preliminary analysis of their main features. These cases are shared for exchange of information so that Member States can learn from each other and possibly create new partnerships.

FUSILLI’s primary objective is that cities overcome the obstacles for the evolution and application of holistic policies and food, which support sustainable food transformations in urban, peri-urban and rural areas, in accordance with relative EU policies for the transformation of food systems into sustainable ones up to 2030. The project’s duration is 4 years.
Regarding the City of Athens, through the municipality’s participation in FUSILLI, the city will be given the opportunity to continue its action plan for sustainable food and through this, the transformation of the linear food model of the city into a holistic, sustainable, circular one, aiming at the following:
The mitigation of GreenHouse Gases through the decrease and composting of food residuals
