This compendium, prepared by the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), aims to capture emerging trends in digital responses of UN Member States against the COVID-19 pandemic along with other digital government initiatives and provide a preliminary analysis of their main features. These cases are shared for exchange of information so that Member States can learn from each other and possibly create new partnerships.

Mobile Operators provide the government’s emergency task force with anonymised and aggregated movement data to better monitor the effectiveness of the protection measures. All based on the GDPR and national data protection rules. The Austrian Red Cross has developed the “stop corona” app. The use is on a voluntary basis. It allows an anonymised digital handshake (active storage of contacts) between mobile handsets. If a user gets infected, then he can send an anonymised warning via the app to all con-tacts from the last 48 hours.
