UN DESA Policy Brief No. 149: Promoting Youth Participation in Decision-Making and Public Service Delivery through Harnessing Digital Technologies
Key messages
Harnessing digital technologies can greatly support public institutions in promoting effective youth engagement and participation in policy processes. Digital technologies can play an instrumental role in youth engagement and participation through i) better understanding the demands and priorities of youth; ii) raising awareness and informing youth of government policies; iii) facilitating participation in policy consultations and decision-making processes; and iv) co-designing and co-creating policies and services.
Public institutions shall take policy measures to address challenges and build an enabling ecosystem for youth engagement and participation, with a focus on bridging the youth digital divide and supporting digital skills development of youth.
