Technical Guidance, Methodologies and Approaches
The 11 Principles of Effective Governance for Sustainable Development provide practical, expert guidance to interested countries in a broad range of governance challenges associated with implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The Division has been working with global experts to prepare Strategy Guidance Notes and provide content to the strategies to support full implementation of the principles of effective governance for sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda. The notes include information on how a Government can both assess its current status and measure progress in applying the strategy.
The Division has developed a Curriculum on Governance for the SDGs to advance knowledge and assist governments in developing capacities at the individual, organizational, and institutional/societal levels, to drive the transformational change needed to implement the 2030 Agenda. The Curriculum is a comprehensive set of Training of Trainers Capacity Development Toolkits.
The Division works with schools of public administration from around the world through the Global Initiative on Governance for the SDGs. The initiative engages schools of public administration and regional associations of public administration through a Global Network of Schools of Public Administration. Its aim is to strengthen the capacities of governments and public servants (in terms of knowledge, skills, attitude, leadership competences and mindset) through training of trainers to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
To facilitate knowledge dissemination and support capacity development efforts of UN Member States, the Division also produces online courses, which are available to anyone with Internet access and are provided free of charge as well as Training of Trainers Toolkits, guidelines, manuals and self-assessment methodologies. These are available on the Online Training Center.
