Several services provide daily aid to seniors in the City of Brussels.
Advisory Council
On 6 May 1988, the Advisory Council of Seniors of the City of Brussels was installed in the City Hall. The council joined the already existing Consultative Committees. The council has a role of opinion and suggestion on all the questions which interest seniors: safety, transport, housing, nursing homes.
Anniversaries & centenarians
The City of Brussels celebrates jubilees with residence on its territory by organizing a reception in their honor on the occasion of their 50th, 60th, 65th and 70th wedding anniversary. This is also done for centenarians. The jubilee can be accompanied by family and friends.
Approximately 2 months before the anniversary, the service of the Registry office (Marriage Office) will automatically contact the persons concerned to know when and where they would like to have their ceremony.
Culture tickets
The City of Brussels gives Brussels seniors free tickets for various cultural performances.
Sports tickets
The City of Brussels has sports tickets of up to 100 euros for seniors.
Nursing homes
The territory of the City of Brussels also counts rest homes and retirement and nursing homes for elderly.
A valid rest home is for people whose health no longer permits living at home.
A rest and nursing home aims at older people who need help for their daily activities.
Retirement pension
The income guarantee for the elderly (GRAPA-IGO) is a benefit for people over 65 who do not have sufficient financial resources.
