Fauna Survey

The Fauna Survey in the city of São Paulo is a service of great importance for obtaining technical data regarding the existence of animal life in the city. In addition to verifying the location of the various animal species in the city of São Paulo, the technicians responsible for these activities acquire great knowledge about the biology of the local animal life, generating important information for their management through the faunal division.
So far, 395 different animal species have been registered in the city of São Paulo, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish, of which 24 species are threatened with extinction and 10 are probably threatened (according to state decree nº 42.828/98).
The occurrence records of the various animal species in the city, together with the information obtained throughout the fauna research and study process, feed the content of publications and courses developed by the division, which are offered to other technicians and researchers as well as the general public .
