Myanmar: Promoting affordable connectivity

In an example of regulatory action to promote Internet affordability and connectivity, in 2013, the Government of Myanmar introduced the Telecommunications Law to open the telecommunications market to competition. In the first month after private-sector mobile operators began to enter the telecommunications market in 2014, an estimated 2 million new subscibers joined mobile networks. By 2015, the price of a mobile SIM card had dropped from $150 in 2013 to $1.50.
