Adopted in 2008 by the City Council on the initiative of Nicolas Croesi, Deputy Mayor, this reforestation program concretely marks the City Council's commitment to the environment and reforestation.
The principle is simple: for each birth registered in the Principality, the Monaco Town Hall undertakes to plant a tree near Monaco (Cap d'Ail, La Turbie, etc.). Parents who come to declare the birth of their child at the Town Hall are given a nominative certificate by the Civil Status service.
Originally, this 1 birth = 1 tree project was part of the worldwide Plant for the planet campaign, sponsored by HSH Prince Albert II and aimed at planting a billion trees. In 2020, the operation counted more than 12,000 trees planted by the Monaco City Hall, thus confirming the action of the Municipal Institution in favor of the environment.
