SDG 16 CONFERENCE 2022

Event Date: -

People-centred governance in a post-pandemic world

Representatives from governments, United Nations and international organizations officials, leading academics, civil society and youth representatives from around the world convened virtually and in-person for the SDG 16 Conference on People-centred governance in a post-pandemic world. The event was co-organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) with the Government of Italy. The conference was attended by about 60 in-person participants and approximately 1000 online participants. Over 30 high-level speakers intervened during the two days. The conference covered four broad themes: peace and security, rule of law and access to justice, resilient institutions in times of crisis, and leaving no one behind. The speakers, who represented governments, international organizations (including the UN), civil society, academia and other stakeholders, provided messages and recommendations that can inform the discussions at the 2022 UN high-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF). Civil society held online consultations prior to the event and produced the 2022 Rome Civil Society Declaration on SDG 16+, which was finalized during the Conference and presented to the participants.
