The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through its Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG) and Office of Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for the Sustainable Development Goals (OISC), and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) are co-organizing a continental workshop on the Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) for the 2023 high level political forum (HLPF) and the Domestication of Agenda 2063, to be held in Durban, South Africa from 15-17 March 2023. The workshop will be opened by USG Mr. Li Junhua and involve a regional platform for peer learning between 25 African countries, seven of which are presenting their VNRs at the high-level political forum in July 2023.

The workshop aims to support national capacities of AU member States in preparing their VNRs to be presented at the HLPF in July 2023. This annual continental workshop offers a regional platform for peer learning on best practices of the integration and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063, guided by the principles for effective governance for sustainable development which were developed by the Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) and endorsed by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The workshop also includes a focus on voluntary local reviews (VLRs) and their integration into VNRs.
