Tanzania: Monitoring Authority for E-Government

In 2019, the United Republic of Tanzania established the e-government Authority with a mandate to coordinate, promote and enforce e-government policies in order to facilitate public access to digital services. The country requires that online services provision be tracked and measured so that the progress and impact of e-government development can be assessed, and every public institution collects statistics on the usage of e-government services through their respective websites or portals. The comprehensive e-government strategy and careful monitoring have been key factors allowing Tanzania to boost its online service delivery levels above the African average despite the country’s low-income status.
