The application makes it possible to compare GPS coordinates history with location data of people who tested positively for COVID-19. The system is consent-based and relies on self-reporting. More than 1 million people use the application. Seznam.cz stores and processes anonymised history location data of infected people separately. The app alerts users in case of a high probability that their paths crossed with those of COVID-19 positive. After receiving an alert, application users can take measures for not spreading the Virus further. The initiative is branded as “Let’s stop the spreading of Virus together”. Location data are collected in the user's device and sent to Seznam.cz servers every 15 minutes. The unique device identifier is used for data sets. No other identification data are stored. Algorithms used for calculating the probability of being infected were consulted with epidemiologists.
