Zurich Conservatory Music School, with around 23,000 students, is the largest music school in Switzerland and one of the largest in Europe.
It is run as a separate service department of the School and Sports Department of the City of Zurich. Around 600 qualified music teachers work at MKZ.
Lessons are offered in seven decentralized music schools and in almost 100 primary schools in all districts of the city of Zurich.
MKZ's educational offer is very broad and open to all types of music.
After the musical elementary school (basic musical training MGA), instrumental and singing lessons begin, which are supplemented and continued in over 200 different ensembles, chamber music groups, pop, rock and jazz bands as well as orchestras.
All musical instruments can be learned at the municipal music school: All string, wood and brass instruments as well as percussion instruments, from piano, organ, harpsichord and keyboard to guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, lute and mandolin, from accordion to dulcimer and harp .
MKZ's offer is rounded off by its own singing school with voice training, children's and youth choirs and a wide range of courses for dance and theater.
In addition to the actual music lessons, district concerts, level tests, choir and orchestra concerts, workshops, dance and theater performances and music camps are held over the course of a school year. School-weaker children receive special support, as do highly talented music students.
Making music, singing and creating connections, opens worlds, creates contacts across language and cultural boundaries, promotes integration and community and makes an important contribution to personal development. With this in mind, the Zurich Conservatory Music School invites all students to make music together.
