IT strategy 2016
The thrust of 6 Energy-efficient and environmental IT is to prevent energy consumption in the wake of increasing digitization that constantly increases. In addition to the corresponding general procurement guidelines for IT infrastructures, the energy efficiency of the data centers and the central systems operated there are to be further increased.
Climate neutrality by 2040
Although greenhouse gas emissions in urban areas have fallen by a quarter since 1990, the urban measures taken to date are not sufficient to achieve the 1.5 degree target of the Paris Agreement. In response to a motion from the municipal council (GR No. 2019/106), the city of Zurich has revised its climate protection target.
The city council redefines the climate targets for the city of Zurich as follows
Greenhouse gas emissions in the urban area
Zurich will reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions in the urban area to net zero by 2040. A reduction of at least 50 percent compared to 1990 is to be achieved by 2030.
Greenhouse gas emissions outside the urban area (indirect emissions)
For the first time, the city council has also decided on a reduction target for indirect greenhouse gas emissions: 30 percent compared to 1990 per person and year by 2040 is the target.
Net zero in 2035 for city administration
The city administration has a role model role on the way to net zero. It should achieve the targets for direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions as early as 2035.
